From police to politician: Former TN IPS Officer Annamalai is joining BJP ahead of TN polls!

Dotting up the speculations on his political stint, former Indian Police Service Officer Annamalai Kuppuswamy, who belongs to Tamil Nadu, is all set to open up his second innings as he is going to join the BJP party on Tuesday- August 25 in the presence JP Nadda, the national president of the Central ruling party. 

Annamalai has recently come to the spotlight particularly in Tamil Nadu through his interviews in which he amplified that he would sail on the BJP's boat by apparently backing the saffron party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. By stating Modi as his favorite leader, the police turned politician had said he would be supporting and enhancing the grounds of education and agriculture in his hometown as his priority before getting on to the political grounds. 

Annamalai had served as an IPS officer in Karnataka and he exited from the police service in May 2019 and the interviews that he gave following the stint as a police officer had hinted that he would certainly go for a political career from a police career and expected that he would join BJP. Speaking to an English news media, the police turned politician said he was considering the options for the past few months and decided to join BJP. 

According to the reports, Annamalai would be having a prospect of helping the saffron party grow from the eroding grounds in Tamil Nadu ahead of the state assembly polls, which adds more cruciality to the Central ruling party to grab the power in the southern state amid having a limited political presence comparing to the Dravidian giants. 

Being a staunch supporter of Modi, his announcement of joining BJP hadn't surprised many on both sides of the aisle. In some of his interviews, he expressed his admiration towards the Prime Minister on his growth and he also has strongly been supporting the Center's tax reformation Goods and Service Tax (GST). By citing that the reformation has been rolled out with a vision, he stated that the results and benefits of GST would be of a long term, not a short term and according to him, the benefits of the tax reformation can be seen in 10 to 15 years. 

Annamalai is a native of Karur, Tamil Nadu. He has graduated from PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore and the Indian Institute of Management in Lucknow. He was a 2011 batch IPS officer and was appointed as the assistant superintendent of police in Udupi district, Karnataka in 2013 and he was then promoted to SP of the same district on January 1, 2015. He had been known as 'Singam' of Udupi for his reputation that he earned over taking actions against the criminal activities. 

He then went on to serve as the SP of Chikkamagaluru, Ramanagara districts in Karnataka and got a prominent place in the state's police force and in October 2018, he was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police of South Bengaluru and in May 2019, he quitted from the police force and said he would be working for the development of his village and after a year of exiting from the grounds of law enforcement, he has now prepared to begin in second innings on the political grounds. 

According to the reports, Annamalai's announcement of joining BJP has come months ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls and the Central ruling party would make use of his induction to enhance its base in the southern state, where the Modi wave finds tough to withstand against the Dravidian storm. With the aberrant developments in the alliance and the back to back controversies, the BJP would have tough elections and the reports stated that Annamalai would work either based in Chennai or Coimbatore for the BJP ahead of the state assembly polls.
