From PM Narendra Modi to Kamal Haasan: India pays tribute to Dilip Kumar, the doyen of Indian Cinema!

That actor who had stolen the hearts through his versatility and written history in the Indian cinema is no more. Legendary star Dilip Kumar, who was always resplendent on the screen through his acting, has passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at a hospital in Mumbai where he was getting treated for a week. 

Through his impressive acting, Dilip Kumar has reigned the Bollywood industry in his career spanning six decades. He was admitted to the hospital on June 30 and he breathed his last on Wednesday. His last breath has indeed stopped the breath of an era in Bollywood that was ruled by him for several decades. Dilip Kumar's demise had brought constant dusk in the Indian film industry as his contribution to the industry was immense and unparalleled. 

He was a pivotal force in the thriving cinema industry and he successfully etched a history through his acting. Dilip Kumar was active nearly for six decades from 1944 to 1999 and after staying off from cinema, he went active in politics as he also had served as a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra from 2000 to 2006. After learning about his demise, several leaders and fans are paying tribute to the deceased soul, that once reigned Bollywood. 

President Ram Nath Kovind said, "Dilip Kumar summarised in himself a history of emerging India. The thespian’s charm transcended all boundaries, and he was loved across the subcontinent. With his demise, an era ends. Dilip Saab will live forever in the heart of India. Condolences to family and countless fans." 

In his tribute note, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, "Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends, and innumerable admirers. RIP."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Shri Dilip Kumar Ji was a veritable legend of the silver screen, in him, Indian Cinema has lost one of the greatest actors. He has entertained generations of cinema lovers with his incredible acting and iconic roles. My sincerest condolences to Dilip Ji’s family and followers." Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, "Deeply anguished by the passing away of veteran actor & former Rajya Sabha member. In the death of Shri Dilip Kumar, the world of cinema has lost one of the greatest Indian actors." 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "My heartfelt condolences to the family, friends & fans of Dilip Kumar ji. His extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered for generations to come." Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "An institution has gone ...whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written, it shall always be 'before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar'... My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss ...Deeply saddened." Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar took to Twitter and wrote, "Deepest condolences to Saira ji and family. RIP Dilipkumar saab." 

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar wrote, "Rest in Peace Dilip Kumar ji! There will never be another like you. Your contribution to Indian cinema is unparalleled and you’ll be missed dearly. My heartfelt condolences to Saira Banu ji & the family." Actor turned politician Kamal Haasan said, "Dilip Kumar saheb. A career that teaches many actors like me a standard and commitment to maintain in their performance. Truly one of the greatest actors of India leaves us today but leaves us with a treasure trove of his brilliance through his acting." 

"His understated approach is still tried by contemporary actors who are brave enough to attempt it" Kamal Haasan added. According to reports, the funeral of the deceased actor will take place later on Wednesday. Dilip Kumar's friend Farooqui further said, "Burial today at 5:00 PM. Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz Mumbai."
