Heeraben Modi, the mother of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, died early Friday morning in an Ahmedabad hospital. Her body was cremated at a crematorium in Gandhinagar. At about 3:30 in the morning, she passed away. After experiencing health problems, she was admitted to the U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad earlier this week. A bulletin from the Centre, after her health deteriorated, informed the news of her demise. Tributes and condolences flooded in as the news of her death spread.
PM Modi's mother Heeraba Modi's family has released a statement following her demise. "We thank everyone for their prayers in these tough times. It is our humble request to everyone to keep the departed soul in their thoughts and continue with their pre-decided schedule and commitments. That would be a befitting tribute to Hiraba,", reported ANI quoting sources.
Taking to Twitter, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi condoled the demise of PM Modi’s mother Heeraba. He penned in Hindi, "The news of the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother, Mrs. Hira Ba is extremely sad. At this difficult time, I extend my deepest condolences and love to him and his family," he wrote.
In honour, President Droupadi Murmu offered his condolences. In Hindi, she penned, "The hundred years of struggling life of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's mother Heeraba is a symbol of Indian ideals. Shri Modi imbibed the spirit of '#Matridevobhav' and the values of Hiraba in his life. I pray for the peace of the holy soul. My condolences to the family!"
Shortly after the saddened news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew to Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and took part in his mother's last rites, and paid his respects to mother Heeraba at her house. Then, he and his brother Somabhai and other family members said their final goodbyes as he lit the funeral pyre for their mother.
