As the national and regional parties are ramping up the political game for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, which is just an year away, the political calculations and speculations are doing rife about how the crucial fight would unfold in the coming months. As the central-ruling BJP has already begun its pitch for the 2024 polls, a controversial Hindutva leader in Tamil Nadu has come up with a weird wish.
Arjun Sampath, the Chief of Hindu Makkal Katchi in Tamil Nadu, has expressed his wish that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should contest in the Lok Sabha polls from Tamil Nadu. His statement has come days after a speculation that Prime Minister Modi would also contest from the Ramanathapuram constituency in Tamil Nadu, besides his favourite choice of Varanasi in the general election.
Speaking to the reporters in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, Sampath said, "If Tamil Nadu shouldn't become another Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi should contest from Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister Modi contested from Varanasi last time. There are two important cities in India, one is Varanasi and another is Rameswaram. This time, Prime Minister Modi should contest from Rameswaram (Ramanathapuram constituency)."
Sampath had also said that Amit Shah should contest from the Coimbatore constituency in the upcoming polls. Supporting his claim, Arjun Sampath alleged, "Coimbatore is witnessing a growing number of supporters of ISIS and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi is directly supporting the ISIS. So, Amit Shah and Modi should contest from Tamil Nadu and if they contest, BJP can win the entire 40 seats (39 from Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry."
"The situation in the present is different from how it was in the past. The party, which accepts Modi as the Prime Minister, will win in Tamil Nadu. The ADMK-BJP alliance in the state is more strong. It's been 17 months since DMK came to power. The people will definitely voice their answer for the DMK rule in the 2024 polls. The ADMK-BJP alliance will win in all 40 seats", Sampath added.
Earlier this week, there was a political talk about Modi's choice of contesting from Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, though there was no official announcement. BJP has sketched a 'Mission 350' to win 350 Lok Sabha seats and to form the government at the Centre for the third consecutive time. The political observers say that it is less likely that Modi would contest from Ramanathapuram and it has also been reported that such talks were sparked by the state BJP leaders to toss a debate.
