In a dreadful development showcasing the prevalence of torture and physical bullying, the state of Tamil Nadu was appalled to witness the horrific visuals from Thanjavur district where a mob had reportedly tortured and beaten a 24-year-old man in all the possible ways by alleging that he had looted money, though the allegation is still to be proven. 

The disturbing visuals have been virally spreading on social media, prompting the police to initiate legal action against the assailants. According to reports, the incident happened in Ammapettai, near Papanasam in Thanjavur district on Wednesday. 

The group of people who would be between 20- 28 had reportedly blindfolded 24-year-old Rahul, who belonged to the same area, and tied him to a tree following which they have brutally beaten him on his back by using a cane. They had beaten him in such a way that he got fainted and attempted to commit suicide. 

The video shows that Rahul, whose eyes were tied using a green cloth, was pleading and begging them not to beat him and let him go. However, turning dumb, the assailants had displayed their full hostility on him with one of them shooting the video, which was later released on social media following which the brutality came to light. The assailants were seen supporting each other in a way that Rahul can't escape from their trap and they continued beating him despite Rahul's cry out of pain. 

Even after knowing that Rahul has got fainted, the group didn't stop their brutality with one of the assailants saying he wouldn't die and asked his friends to beat him more. The video had even shown that one of the assailants had sat on Rahul's chest to ensure that he can't escape while the other two were seen thrashing him on his back and foot. The act of torture had shocked the entire state with many demanding the police to take appropriate action against them. The video has also been getting rampantly shared. 

After the incident came to light, the police had launched the probe and identified that Rahul is a laborer from Poondimelatheru in Thanjavur district. He has been currently getting treated at the Thanjavur government hospital for treatments as he had sustained brutal injuries, fainted, and attempted to commit suicide after facing the torture. While the mob had alleged that he had stolen money, some reports say that it was due to caste as Rahul belongs to the lower cast. 

It has been reported that there is no case filed against Rahul that he had stolen the money and there has been a dispute between them. The police said that they are investigating the case and yet to ascertain the root cause of the incident. According to our sources, the police had filed a case against eight people in connection to the incident under the grounds of the attempt murder, cruelty, and SC/ST Act. The police department had arrested four people so far and investigating further.
