Planning for a wedding in Chennai amid rains? Keep your boats ready! Here's how newlyweds had a boat ride!

A wedding that took place amid the monsoon rain in Chennai had reminded that if the betrothal couple had decided to tie the knot in the midst of heavy rainfall, they should have a boat ready to ferry them on the rainwater as most of the marriage halls would be flooded by the rainwater as the sequel of heavy downpour. The wedding ceremony was held on Thursday in Teynampet, Chennai and it was attended by dozens of people from outside Chennai.

However, ahead of the conclusion of the ceremony, heavy rains had blanketed the marriage hall and caused severe disruption to the people inside the hall. With no sign of draining off, the newlyweds Prabhu and Muthulakhsmi had eventually ended up leaving the hall on the boat that belonged to the state fire and rescue services. The marriage was attended by over 50 people and all of them were evacuated and sheltered at the temporary camps.

The wedding took place in the corporation community hall and the newlyweds were the last to leave the hall after evacuating all the guests, who had come to Chennai from Sivakasi and Virudhanagar. After learning that the rainwater had surrounded the marriage hall, the relatives had expressed their panic as the rainwater had entered the hall and the kitchen, where the food was being prepared to serve to the people.

The disruption was informed to the fire and rescue department, post which the officials rushed to the spot. A fireman said that the officials were rushed to the venue and noticed that the guests were panicking. As most of the guests were new to Chennai, they were worried about witnessing the rainwater around the marriage hall. One of the guests had said that they know that there would be heavy rain. However, they hadn't imagined that they would be held hostage by the rainwater.

The guest said that they were in a situation where the wedding can't be deferred as they paid money for all the arrangements. The team from the fire and rescue department had brought their boats in which the guests were ferried from the hall. The fireman further said that they had made multiple boat trips of dropping the guests nearly three kilometres to where their bus was parked. The bride and the groom had sent the guests safely and the newlyweds were the last to leave the hall. They said they had enjoyed the boat ride as it was something they didn't expect.
