'Padappai' Guna, a TN BJP supporter who was on the 'wanted' list, surrenders before a court!

Padappai Guna, a notorious hooligan in Tamil Nadu, who has more than 24 murder and attempted murder cases against him had surrendered before a court in Chennai amid being searched by the police. He was then remanded under judicial custody for further investigations. Guna, a BJP supporter, was on the wanted list and he was being searched by a special team of Kancheepuram police. He had surrendered before the Saidapet magistrate court in Chennai on Tuesday - January 25. 

According to reports, Guna had reached the court premises and appeared before magistrate Krishnan. After he surrendered, the police were informed following which the officials had begun the process of taking him into judicial custody. After the hearing, Guna was remanded in judicial custody till January 31 and he was then taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for the Covid-19 test and after testing, he was lodged at the prison in Poonamallee. 

There were multiple reports under the affirmation that Guna and BJP are on good terms and that the latter has extended full support to the former in dealing with the pending cases. Earlier this month, when the police were searching for Guna in the Sri Perumbudur region, veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan had visited Guna's residence and met his wife. 

It was also reported that several BJP leaders had appealed to Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi with the intention to ensure that the police don't arrest Guna, as he is a BJP supporter. While it was said that the Tamil Nadu BJP unit was protecting Guna, he had got surrendered on Tuesday and was put under incarceration. BJP's bid to save Guna had grown when an encounter specialist, ADSP Velladurai was posted in Kancheepuram to eliminate gangsters in the region. 

Guna, who was doing a scrap business in Padappai, Kancheepuram, has more than 24 cases, including murder, attempt to murder, kidnap, and extortion against him in Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts. Last year, a case was booked against him in Sungavarchatram police station based on a complaint from a woman that Guna was threatening to kill her to take her land. Since then, he had been absconding and after several months, he has now voluntarily surrendered.
