Directed by James Cameron, "Avatar: The Way of Water" hit theatres on December 16, 2022, and will be remembered as a groundbreaking film of this year. Film Tracker reports that over 3800 theatres in India are showing the film, with an average of over 17,000 showings per day. The director claims that the film, with a budget of Rs. 2,000 crores, and its the biggest film in the film industry.
After the RDA and Quaritch return to Pandora 13 years after the events of the first film, Jake and Neytiri are forced to seek the help of the oceanic Metkayina clan in order to protect their children. On its opening weekend in India, Avatar 2 reportedly made Rs 40 crore; by its seventh day in theatres, the film had earned between Rs 193 and Rs 200 crores, making it the second-biggest Hollywood opener in India behind Avengers: Endgame.
The Tamil version has made 28.45 crores, while the Hindi dub has raked in 105.2 crores. While its production budget was only $400 million, The Way of Water has already made over $600 million worldwide in less than a week of release. The sequel, which is set ten years after the original, has been greeted with overwhelming reviews: many viewers have praised its stunning visuals, while others have criticised the storyline.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Kate Winslet are just a few of the Hollywood heavy hitters who star in Avatar: The Way of Water. The director also confirmed that the film has follow-up sequels up until 2028, and the release of the third film, currently speculated to be titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer, which is set for December 2024.
