Exactly one day after airing repugnant comments about Dravidian leader and social reformer Thanthai Periyar while the state of Tamil Nadu observed his death anniversary, the Tamil Nadu BJP unit asserted that it would initiate actions against those who involved in tweeting against Periyar.
On Tuesday, the BJP unit of the state had blemished itself with a series of controversies after it tweeted offensive remarks about the Dravidian leader. The party's tweet read that 'On this day, which is the death anniversary of Periyar, the father of Maniyammai, let us support the death penalty for child sexual abuse. Let us resolve to create a society without the POCSO offenders.' The alluding comments about Periyar's marriage to Maniammai had spurred the heat from the Dravidian parties and despite the BJP unit had deleted the tweet, the parties had staged protests against BJP for allegedly demeaning Periyar.
While addressing the reporters at the state party headquarters after participating in the birth anniversary function of Former Prime Minister Vajpayee on Wednesday, Former Union Minister and state president Pon Radhakrishnan said that it's not right to comment or criticize about a person who is not alive and claimed that the party would take action against the people who posted the tweet.
Stating about the DMK protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, the BJP leader cited that the DMK party is trying to disrupt the peace in Tamil Nadu by opposing the act as it is against the Muslims and added that the opposition party leaders must keep the defeats of two by-elections in their minds and claimed that India has permitted the people from other countries including Sri Lankan Tamils.
Tamil Nadu's opposition leader and DMK President M K Stalin had winged his vehement response to the deleted tweet that was published by the BJP on belittling the social reformer. Stalin questioned the state wing of the national party that before deleting the remarks, it could have thought about posting such remarks and claimed that Periyar has terrified the BJP even after his death and asked whether ruling ADMK party would roar like a tiger or sneak like an earthworm.
