No relaxations for TN containment zones beyond May 3rd - Here's why!

The segregation of the containment zones in Tamil Nadu has been one of the essential measures towards executing the containment plan in the state to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in its territory. The state currently has 388 such zones across 34 districts and these zones have been imposed with strict bans and restrictions on the movements of the people.

While Tamil Nadu has been going through a complete lockdown that would be in place May 3rd, according to the reports, the normalizations and relaxations won't applicable to the containment zones as it would stay within the barricades beyond May 3rd. On Friday, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shanmugam signaled that the zones would continue until the last reported positive case for the virus in the perimeter gets recovered with accord the guidelines issued by the Central government.

He stated that the duration of the lockdown has no role to play in the operations of the containment zones. According to the medical protocol, the patient must be cleared for discharge from the hospital only after he had shown no symptoms and the two successive results of his samples returned negative for the virus. He must undergo 14 days of hospitalization following which he should remain under home quarantine for another 14 days.

The center has categorized the hotspots into three- Red, Orange, and Green and if the hotspot that had been mapped under Red zone reports no fresh cases for 14 days, it would become an Orange zone and if no reportings of cases for the next 14 days, it will be marked under Green zone. The government maps the containment zone after marking the five-kilometer radius of the virus-hit patient's house with having the residence as the epicenter.

Each containment zone would be stationed with health officials and they have been conducting a door-to-door survey which includes collecting the details of the people showing symptoms, elderly people, children, pregnant women, and the people who have been diagnosed with co-morbid conditions and the measures would continue for next three months.
