No relaxations on the complete lockdown till May 3 - Tamil Nadu Govt!

Amid the Coronavirus outbreak, the Tamil Nadu government has, on Monday, decided not to provide any relaxations to the existing lockdown, thus keeping the restrictions in place till May 3rd as the state is reeling to stem the spread of the virus in its territory.

The announcement of keeping the lockdown has been made after Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has convened a review meeting at the secretariat on Monday during which the 22- member expert committee, headed by state finance secretary Krishnan, disclosed the interim report on the situation and suggestions on the lockdown.

In a statement that was issued by the government post the meeting, it has said that the state government has decided to keep the existing lockdown and other restrictions in place till May 3rd under Disaster Management Act, 2005. With accord to the statement, it can be learned that the government has kept the complete lockdown alive by providing no relaxations to the certain services and activities that were suggested by the Central government.

By stating that the government is in the need to implement intensive measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus, it has asserted that the essential and emergency services would be functioning as usual. It further added that the government would be monitoring the spread of the virus and the decisions would be taken based on the inputs and consultation with the expert committee.

As we reported earlier, the government hasn't relaxed the restrictions and the state currently has 28 districts that have been marked under red zones, which are the hotspots for the virus. Earlier last week, the Central government has said that the relaxations would be poured on some of the sectors after April 20 based on the situation. As per the Center's guidelines, the state governments must announce which establishments, services, and industries would be permitted to resume its operations after April 20.
