Amid the criticism and condemnations over its educational policy, the Tamil Nadu ruling ADMK government has scrapped its previous order of conducting public exams for classes 5 and 8 students through which it has brought huge relief for thousands of students who have been uncertain over the future of their education.
By withdrawing the public exams, the government has canceled such exams that were earlier scheduled to take place between March and April this year. On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan has said that the state government would be revoking the previous order that was passed to conduct the public exams. He stated that the government has decided to scrap down the order after it has received several representations from various stakeholders.
He added that the schools will keep up the prevailing examination system for the students of classes 5 and 8. His decision has come a day after the commissioner of School Education had provided details on the evaluation scheme for the public exams. Last September, the ruling ADMK government had spurred the controversy that queued up in the row of condemnations against the government.
It has proposed to implement the board exams for the students of classes 5 and 8 and since the announcement made public, the ADMK government has been strongly condemned by the activists and educationalists who urged the government not to add more burden to the students which would increase the rate of school dropouts.
Some had claimed that the implementation is totally against the poor and marginalized students who have been studying without equal rights and educational systems. However, last September, Sengottaiyan claimed that the government would not publish the results of the students and nearly after five months, the government had stooped back to the voice of the representations and activists and revoked its order.
