Newly elected TN MLAs will take oath on May 11: Check who is the interim Speaker!

The newly-elected MLAs of Tamil Nadu will be taking oath as the legislator on May 11 at 10 am when the 16th legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu will meet for its first session. The first session of the government formed by MK Stalin will be hosted by Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai and preparations in the temporary host of the assembly have been underway to conduct the first session with the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines. 

According to reports, DMK's Pitchandi, who from the Kilpennathur constituency in the assembly polls, has been named as the interim speaker of the Tamil Nadu assembly and he will be administering the oath to all the MLAs of the new assembly. After the oath ceremony, the assembly will be electing the full-time Speaker and Deputy Speaker on May 12. 

The reports say that Manithaneya Makkal Katchi's Chief Jawahirullah, who observes ties with the DMK, will likely be elected as the Speaker of the assembly. The first assembly session of the 16th assembly will be taking place when the state would under complete lockdown in the wake of the exponential rise of the COVID-19 cases. 

MK Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government has on Saturday imposed a complete lockdown in the state from May 10 to May 24. Stalin and his cabinet ministers were administered oath to their respective offices on Friday post which Stalin assumed the office of the Chief Minister for the first time. He arrived at the Chief Secretariat and began discharging his duties as the 12th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. 

On Friday, he had passed several orders including a rejig in the bureaucracy and the state law enforcement agency. Stalin has appointed V Irai Anbu IAS as the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu and the Chief Minister has picked Udhayachandran IAS, Umanath IAS, Shanmugam IAS, and Anu George IAS as his direct secretaries. On Friday, he also has appointed Shankar Jiwal IPS as the Chennai City  Police Commissioner, and now the state has got the interim speaker. The full-time speaker for this assembly will be elected on May 12.
