Nation first: A TN woman police officer leads I-Day parade before going for her father's funeral!

On the night hours of August 14, Maheswari, an Armed Reserve police inspector attached in Tirunelveli district, received the tragic news of her father's death from hundreds of kilometers away. She decided not to go immediately after hearing the news as the next day morning, she must lead the Independence Day parade.

By keeping the grief behind the mask and tears within, she assembled at the Palayamkottai VOC grounds in the district on August 15 and led the Independence Day parade of presenting the guard of honor to Tirunelveli Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish and Police Superintendent N Manivannan.

Throughout the parade, the police officer didn't break out of emotions and tears and commanded the parade with her usual voice with the commitment to honor the Indian tricolor and Independence day and it was that commitment that put attending of her father's last rites aside.

The statement from the police said that though she learned of her father's death on August 14 night, she went for the funeral only after completing the parade on Saturday with a sense of patriotism. The police department said it was proud of her for placing duty for the country above personal grief and sentiments.

After completing the parade, the police officer went to Dindigul, where her father Narayanasamy died at the age of 83 and attended the funeral. According to the reports, she thought of going to see her father after the parade as planned things might go wrong if the parade has a last moment change of getting led by a substitute. Following the development, many took to social media and placed their appreciation for her patriotism and condolences for her father.
