Adding another feather on his cap, young Indian pacer Natarajan has now become the first Indian cricketer to make his international debut across all three formats during the same tour. With his greatest milestone, Natarajan has become the 17th cricketer to achieve this feat in the history of cricket. He made this achievement when he made his debut Test debut in the fourth and final Test match against Australia on Friday in Brisbane.
What was scheduled as a tour for Natarajan as a net bowler has now become the tour of revealing his talents and dedication, giving him a crucial push to his cricketing career as he has now become one of the primetime Indian bowlers, pillaring the Indian bowling line-up. On Friday, he was handed over the cap for his first Test match and the fellow Indian players had commended and congratulated him for his remarkable feat.
The International Cricket Council joined the Indian team and fans to celebrate Natarajan's milestone. Releasing a video where Natarajan was handed over the cap, the ICC took to Twitter and said, "Welcome to Test cricket, Natarajan. Thangarasu Natarajan becomes the first Indian player to make his International debut across all three formats during the same tour". The 29-year-old from Tamil Nadu was inducted into the Test squad after some of the players had suffered injuries amid pressure to handle the host.
Natarajan has made the debut in the fourth Test which is a do or die match for both the host and the visitors to lift the Test trophy. Natarajan received the ODI cap in the third ODI match against Australia on December 2 in Canberra and he had a potential breakthrough after getting wickets in his very first match. India won that ODI by 13 runs.
Following the ODI debut, Natarajan made his T20 debut and displayed a splendid play by taking six wickets during the series and India won the three-match T20 series by recording two victories. He was roped into the T20 squad as a replacement for a fellow Tamil Nadu player Varun Chakravarthy who got his maiden India induction before being ruled out owing to injury. Along with Natarajan, another Tamil Nadu native Washington Sundar had also made his Test debut on Friday.
Sundar has become the 301st player to represent India in Test cricket and he also has become the third-youngest player to represent India in all three formats after Ishant Sharma and Rishabh Pant. It must be noted that Natarajan had shined in the IPL 2020 after he took 16 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad and stunned some of the leading and powerful batsmen with his magical ball and pace. Through his performance, he has been called the yorker specialist and it had earned him a place in the Australian tour as the net bowler.
He landed in Australia as the net bowler but now it's known that he will take off from the tour and will arrive in India with a crown as the remarkable and significant bowler to Team India by writing a new history of milestones in his cricketing career. The Indian fans are commending the pacer on social media over his biggest milestone of becoming the first Indian cricketer to make his international debut across all three formats during the same tour.
Welcome to Test cricket, @Natarajan_91 🤩
