It was a day of celebration for the fans, as Superstar Rajinikanth's iconic film ‘Muthu’ returned to the big screen after 28 years. The film, which was originally released in 1995, has been re-released in theatres on December 8, 2023, coinciding with the re-release of another cult classic, ‘Aalavandhan’, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Suresh Krissna.
‘Muthu’, directed by KS Ravikumar, is a rural entertainer who showcases Rajinikanth’s charisma and style in a dual role. The film also features Meena as the female lead, and has a memorable soundtrack composed by AR Rahman. The film was a huge blockbuster when it first released, and also became a sensation in Japan, where it was dubbed as ‘Muthu Odoru Maharaja’.
To mark the occasion of the re-release, the team of ‘Muthu’ gathered at Rohini Cinemas in Chennai to watch the first-day-first-show of the film. Actress Meena, who played the role of Ranganayaki, was present along with director KS Ravikumar. They were joined by many other celebrities and fans, who enjoyed the film with cheers and applause.
