Modi's meet with the CMs- What was discussed and what would come up?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, on Saturday, convened a video-conference meeting with the Chief Ministers of the state, which is the second episode in the span of ten days, during which the head of the Indian government took stock of the prevailing situations in the states and acquired feedbacks from the Chief Ministers on whether the nationwide lockdown must be extended after April 14th, as India prepares to grip up its fight against the spread of the Coronavirus.

The video conferencing meeting has come up at a high time amid the floating speculations on whether the lockdown would be extended. The Indian government has highly considering the inputs from the medical experts to extend the lockdown as the country has been witnessing more positive cases for the virus each day. According to the reports, the Central government has acquired opinions from the agencies and various stakeholders who are carrying out the on-ground efforts and measures to curb the spread of the contagion.

The meet was started at 11 am and lasted for about one and a half hours during which the Prime Minister held an interaction with the Chief Ministers and this has been the second meet with the Chief Ministers after imposing nationwide lockdown. With just having three days to mark the end of the current lockdown period, the Ministry of Home Affairs had also obtained views from the state governments towards relaxing the restrictions on various services without loosening the grip on the fight against the virus.

The reports stated that the Central government may keep the lockdown active for a few more days with providing some relaxations on the services as the current tenure of the embargo has shut down all the non-essential services across the country by exempting the essentials. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister has chaired a meeting with the leaders of all national and regional political parties.

In that meeting, Modi stated that the current developments must be dealt with by taking hard and difficult decisions and added that the lockdown won't be lifted in one go. Most of the leaders have suggested the Central government to extend the lockdown after April 14th.

With the current trend, the government may pass a fresh directive to renew the lockdown for a few more days to stem the spread of the virus as in the last 24 hours, India has reported 40 deaths and over 900 cases, according to the Union Health Ministry. As of Saturday morning, India has reported 7,447 cases that were tested positive for the virus so far of which 643 people have recovered and discharged while 239 people have succumbed to the virus.
