Modi has taken the correct decision - Kejriwal signals the lockdown extension!

Hours after the conclusion of Modi's video-conferencing meet with the Chief Ministers concerning the developments of the Coronavirus outbreak in the country, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter and lauded the Prime Minister for taking the correct decision on extending the lockdown. Although no official confirmation has come from the Indian government to renew the embargo, Kejriwal's statement has sent a strong signal to the nation that the lockdown will be extended.

His signal hasn't beaconed further information on how long the lockdown will play its role and the nation needs to wait for the announcement from the government. The current spell of the three-weeks lockdown comes to an end on April 14th. However, India has been coming through surging high cases affected due to the virus and a sharp rise in the death toll each day letting the Central government to strongly consider extending the lockdown after April 14th, as India prepares to grip up its fight against the spread of the global pandemic.

In his tweet, Arvind Kejriwal said that " PM has taken the correct decision to extend lockdown. Today, India’s position is better than in many developed countries because we started lockdown early. If it is stopped now, all gains would be lost. To consolidate, it is important to extend it".

According to the reports, his tweet has echoed what he had placed before the Prime Minister during the virtual meeting held in Delhi that was attended by the rest of his Indian counterparts. In the meet, Kejriwal had suggested the Central government to extend the lockdown till April 30th and most of the Chief Ministers had pressed the same to the government.

The reports further stated that the Chief Ministers of at least seven states had supported to let the lockdown play its role till April 30th.  The Central government has acquired opinions from the agencies and various stakeholders who are carrying out the on-ground efforts and measures to curb the spread of the contagion.

With just having three days to mark the end of the current lockdown period, the Ministry of Home Affairs had also obtained views from the state governments towards relaxing the restrictions on various services without loosening the grip on the fight against the virus. As we reported earlier, the Central government may keep the lockdown active for the whole of April by providing some relaxations on the services as the current tenure of the embargo has shut down all the non-essential services across the country by exempting the essentials.
