The Modi regime is less likely considering bifurcating Tamil Nadu into two states in the albeit of the claim kept by the BJP that it supporting the demand of people in the western part of Tamil Nadu in dividing the state and declare the new state as 'Kongu Nadu'. The demand to bifurcate the state has circulated by most of the people in the region and it was defended by the right-wing supporters after the DMK government in the state has begun calling the Central government as Union government.
Though such demand has sickened Tamil Nadu and its towering history, the demand to divide the state was rampant on social media, drawing major attention as it was shared and backed by the right-wing supporters amid the ongoing protests for the increase in the fuel prices across and beyond Tamil Nadu. However, it wasn't completely subsided as there was a prediction that the Modi-led Union government is planning to bifurcate the state and demarcate a new state under the name of 'Kongu Nadu'.
While such a proposal of a divide was admonished by most of the political parties in Tamil Nadu, asserting that Tamil Nadu hates bifurcation, the Union Minister has clarified that the government has no proposal to bifurcate any state in the country, including Tamil Nadu, was under its consideration. Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha MPs S Ramalingam and TR Paarivendhar have urged the Union government to divulge in the house about any proposal of bifurcating Tamil Nadu.
The MPs had, if in case of considering bifurcating, also sought clarification from the government about the reason, purpose, and motive for such bifurcation and if the government had received any demand from any individual or organization for bifurcating any state in the country, including Tamil Nadu. The questions from the Tamil Nadu MPs have come days after former Tamil Nadu BJP President L Murugan had invited controversy by claiming himself that he belongs to Kongu Nadu.
After the outrage, Murugan went on to maintain that it was a clerical mistake due to which he had mentioned as Kongu Nadu. Responding to the questions, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai has on Tuesday gave a reply to the MPs in Lok Sabha that the Union government has no such proposal of bifurcating is under consideration presently. He further asserted that the Union government would move on the matter of formation of new states after taking all relevant factors into consideration.
Rai, who directly reports to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, said that the demands and representations were received from time to time from various individuals and organizations for creation of new states. "Creation of a new state has wide ramifications and direct bearing on the federal polity of our country", Rai added. Kongu Nadu denotes a geographical location of several districts including Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, and Tirupur of the western part of Tamil Nadu.
