Modi-fied Tamil gesture : DMK urges to name Tamil as official language!

In the wake of Prime minister's proclamation and the gesture on describing Tamil as the oldest language in the world, the president of DMK party M K Stalin had today took welcoming notion on Narendra Modi's stance on Tamil and urged the Prime minister to declare Tamil as the official language of the country.

In his statement, M K Stalin had expressed his warm and whole hearted welcome for Modi's speech at the Chennai airport yesterday and he flagged his prospect of mentioning the countries which have Tamil as its official language where he had cited that the countries like Sri Lanka and Singapore have pronounced Tamil as their official language while India had seen failing in its part. He further added that the Tamil people will always remember those who have done good for the language apart from providing good hospitality.

He indicated the deviation observed by the Central government in releasing financial assistance to Tamil Nadu for constructing world class museum to display the ancient and precious artifacts unearthed during Keeladi excavations and called on the Modi government to be responsible on giving proper and undeniable recognition to Tamil language and urged the Prime minister not to express his stand on Tamil language as the oldest, but to abide by it.

These political dramas on languages had directed by the Union Home minister Amit Shah through his controversial speech where, on Hindi Diwas, he told that the nation has to come under an umbrella of one language, one nation to represent India globally and termed Hindi as the only language that will unite the country. His statement had been nested with row of controversies and accusations from across the nation especially from the opposition parties of Tamil Nadu which had voiced against alleged Hindi imposition in the country that have multilingual languages in practice.

With having heated accusations against the BJP led Central government, Prime minister Narendra Modi had visited Chennai for the first time after securing massive victories in 2019 Lok Sabha polls to flag 56th convocation ceremony in IIT Madras for which he landed in Chennai yesterday morning. After having been welcomed by the state Governor, Chief minister, state cabinet ministers and by the state BJP leaders, Narendra Modi had, in an unusual stand, addressed the gathering which welcomed him in the airport where he recalled his week long tour to the United States in which he had spoken about the language diversity in India and he mentioned about Tamil language in 'Howdy, Modi' event in Houston and calling the name of ancient Tamil poet during his address in the United Nations General Assembly.
