MK Stalin will convene his first cabinet meeting on Friday evening, hours after swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The development has drawn major attention over what will be discussed at the meeting that would be comprising of several new faces with Stalin as the first time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
MK Stalin will be swearing-in as the Chief Minister on Friday at the ceremony hosted by Raj Bhavan between 9 am to 10 am. Governor Banwarilal Purohit will be administering the oath of office and secrecy to MK Stalin and his 34-member cabinet. On Thursday, the Governor has released the full list of Stalin's cabinet in which 14 are new faces to occupy the ministerial berth.
Hours after the release of the cabinet, an official announcement has been made from Stalin that he will be convening his first cabinet meeting at 4 pm on Friday. According to reports close to the developments, Chief Minister Stalin will be taking stock and reviewing the containment measures to curb the spread of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
It has been reported that he will issue crucial orders to the authorities to expedite the measures and containment strategies to mitigate the spread in the state which has already been reporting peaking cases and a surge in active cases and deaths. The cabinet meeting will be attended by all the new ministers who will be swearing-in on Friday and the health authorities and experts. Along with reviewing the existing protocols, Stalin will be discussing the areas where the medical infrastructure can be enhanced.
The reports say that following the cabinet meeting, Stalin will also be meeting the district collectors virtually to understand the on-ground situation in each district and how the local administrations are responding to the crisis. Stalin has picked one of his closest aides Ma Subramanian as the Ministry for Health and Family Welfare and he will be responsible for leading Stalin's operations in containing the spread.
Stalin will be assuming the office of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time at the backdrop of overwhelming challenges of addressing the health and financial crises triggered by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and exponential deficits left by the outgoing administration. Addressing these two crises would be the paramount task for Stalin along with delivering the promises of the party's manifesto.
