For the first time after coming to power, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has on Wednesday - December 14 rolled out a major cabinet reshuffle amidst boosting his son Udhayanidhi Stalin's political venture by appointing him as a cabinet minister. Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is the first time MLA, sworn-in as the minister and took charge as the Minister for Special Programme Implementation and Youth Welfare and Sports Development.
Through Udhayanidhi's induction in the cabinet, Tamil Nadu now has 35 ministers and besides elevating his son as a cabinet minister, MK Stalin overhauled his council of ministers by allocating and shifting portfolios for a handful of ministers. Raj Bhavan, the Governor's office, has issued an official press release stating that the Governor has approved the change of portfolios based on the recommendation from the Chief Minister. The following is the full list of cabinet reshuffle,
- Though Udhayanidhi Stalin has the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development as his proposed designation, he will also take care of Special Programme Implementation, Department of Poverty Alleviation and Rural Indebtedness.
- Siva Meyyanathan was serving as the Minister for Environment, Climate Change, and Youth Welfare and Sports Development. As the Youth Welfare and Sports Development have been awarded to Udhayanidhi Stalin, Meyyanathan will now be the Minister for Environment and Climate Change with the new responsibility of handling Ex-servicemen affairs.
- I Periyasamy was serving as the Minister for Co-operation. In the cabinet reshuffle, Periyasamy is now the Minister for Rural Development.
- KR Periyakaruppan, who was serving as the Minister for Rural Development, is now the Minister for Co-operation. Periyakaruppan was also looking after Poverty Alleviation and Rural Indebtedness, which are now handed over to Udhayanidhi Stalin.
- RS Raja Kannappan, who is serving as the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, will also take care of Khadi & Village Industries Board.
- K Ramachandran was the Minister for Forests and now, he has been appointed as Minister for Tourism.
- R Gandhi, who is the Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, was earlier taking care of Khadi and Village Industries Board, which are now given to Raja Kannappan.
- PK Sekar Babu, who is serving as the Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, has been given additional responsibility of CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority).
- S Muthusamy, who is the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, was earlier looking after the CMDA.
- Dr Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, who is serving as the Minister for Finance and Human Resources Development, will now be handling the additional charge of Statistics, that was earlier held by I Periyasamy.
- Dr Mathiventhan, who was serving as the Minister for Tourism, will now be serving as the Minister for Forests.
