Tamil Nadu Chief Minister-elect MK Stalin is progressing forward to assume the office and to form the new government in the state after registering a landslide victory in the recently-held state assembly elections. Exactly a day after being elected as the DMK's legislature leader, Stalin has on Wednesday met Governor Banwarilal Purohit to stake claim to form the next government in the state.
In the evening hours of Tuesday, the DMK has convened a meet at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai and it was attended by the newly-elected MLAs of the party. During the meeting, the legislators had endorsed and elected MK Stalin to be the DMK's legislature leader (Chief Minister). With the majority number of support, Stalin had prepared to meet the Governor and while it was reported that he will meet the head of state on Wednesday evening, there was a change in his schedule.
Stalin drove to the Governor's mansion, Raj Bhavan, in the morning hours of Wednesday amid tight security. According to reports, the Chief Minister-elect was accompanied by senior DMK leaders Duraimurugan, TB Baalu, KN Nehru, and RS Bharathi. Stalin met Governor Banwarilal Purohit and presented a resolution unanimously passed by the DMK party over electing him to be the party's leader in the legislative assembly.
The reports say that Stalin has submitted the letter of support from all the 133 MLAs, including 125 DMK MLAs and eight MLAs of the alliance who contested and won the election on the DMK's 'Rising Sun' symbol. By disclosing the letter to the Governor, Stalin has staked a claim to form the next government with the support of the majority seats in the assembly.
The meeting had lasted 20 minutes and the Governor has extended his wishes to Stalin for winning the elections. The reports say that the Governor will most likely invite Stalin to form the government by Wednesday evening, which is one step ahead of swearing-in as the Chief Minister. With the invite from the Governor, Stalin will be taking oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7 - Friday.
The swearing-in ceremony will be hosted by Raj Bhavan on Friday from 9 am to 10 am during which the Governor will be administering the oath of office and secrecy to Stalin and following the swearing-in of the Chief Minister, the Governor will also administer the oath to the ministers-designate. As it has been expected that the ceremony will be attended by the judges of the Madras High Court and other dignitaries, the Raj Bhavan has begun making arrangements for the ceremony.
The officials at the Raj Bhavan are making adequate arrangements and measures to host the ceremony by following the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. The reports say that the public department has been making arrangements and invites will be sent to all the concerned by Wednesday evening and the state government has instructed media persons covering the swearing-in ceremony to undergo RT-PCR test 48 hours prior to the event.
Stalin has decided to keep the ceremony in a non-lavish style and only 200 people have been invited for the ceremony. Each minister-designate will be given five to eight entry passes to the ceremony and they aren't allowed to bring more than eight people. Earlier on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan has met the Governor's secretary and senior officials and held talks about the security and protocol arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony.
