21-year-old Sainikesh, a native of Tamil Nadu, had dreamt of joining the Indian Army after his graduation. But, he had faced rejection from the Army. However, it didn't keep his mind away from the battlefield as he has now found one, not in India, but in Ukraine. Deferring his family's request to come back home, Sainikesh is fighting for Ukraine against the Russian invasion in the midst of the distress braced by the Indian families to rescue their loved ones from Ukraine.
According to an Intelligence report, Sainikesh, an aerospace engineering student, was rejected by the Indian Army twice because of his height. He is now fighting for Ukraine against Russia as part of the Georgian National Legion Paramilitary unit, which comprises volunteers who are armed against Russia. His family has convinced him to return home. However, the vicenarian has turned down the request and has been camping on the battlefield.
The reports say that a team of Intelligence officials had visited Sainikesh's residence at Subramaniyampalayam near Thudiyalur in the Coimbatore district a few days ago and met his parents. The officials had submitted the report two days ago in which they had described the background of Sainikesh's family and the reason behind his decision to fight for Ukraine. Sainikesh has completed his schooling at Vidya Vikasini institution in 2018 and after class 12, he tried to join the Indian Army and after his attempt failed, he flew to Ukraine to pursue higher studies.
Sainikesh had enrolled on a course at National Aerospace University in Kharkiv, Ukraine in September 2018. He was studying the course by staying at the university hostel. His course runs for four years and it is due to get completed in July 2022. Sainikesh's family told the police that he was normal and was concentrating on his studies. He had visited India in July 2021 and stayed for about one-and-a-half months.
According to reports, Sainikesh had told his family a month ago that he has secured part-time employment in a video game development company. However, he was unreachable after the war emerged and his family had learnt through multiple reports that Sainikesh has taken arms to fight for Ukraine against the Russian invasion. In an effort to bring him home, his family had sent an email to the Indian Embassy in Ukraine inquiring about Sainikesh.
After two days, the Embassy had contacted the family and sought Sainikesh's details. Later, Sainikesh had contacted his family and assured them that he was safe and expressed his desire to continue in the paramilitary force and to fight for Ukraine. His father Ravichandran has anguished to learn about his son and the family has been planning to meet officials of both the state and union governments to seek their help in bringing back their son from the warfare.
