The legendary filmmaker Maniratnam has roped in another young talent for his upcoming film Thug Life starring Ulaganayagan Kamal Hassan. Gautham Karthik, the son of veteran actor Karthik, has joined the star-studded cast of the film, which already boasts of names like Jayam Ravi, Dulquer Salmaan, and Trisha.

Thug Life is said to be a thrilling action drama, set in the backdrop of the underworld.  Kamal Haasan steps into the shoes of Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar from Kayalpattinam, a character etched with destiny as a criminal, thug, and Yakuza. Gautham Karthik’s role is yet to be revealed, but sources say he will play a significant part in the film. He already worked with the ace director back in 2013 film Kadal.

The film's teaser already hinted at a parallel between Sakthivel Nayakar and the iconic character from Nayagan, adding layers of intrigue to the narrative. Produced by Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, R. Mahendran, and Siva Ananth under the banners of Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies, and has music by A.R. Rahman.

The shooting of the film is expected to start by the middle of next year. Notably, the film is set to feature an ensemble cast, including Dulquer Salmaan, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha, where Nassar, and Abhirami, rumored to join and Jayam Ravi portrays the role of a Collector.  The film boasts a top-notch technical crew, including cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, editor Sreekar Prasad, and stunt choreographers Anbariv.
