The clock is ticking in a countdown to witness what would become a historical moment in the history of Indian cinema as movie buffs across the ages and lands are eagerly waiting to relish watching the dream project of Ponniyin Selvan on the big screens. Touted as a great epic periodic drama, Ponniyin Selvan will be getting released on Friday- September 30.
Pre-bookings are sold out for almost the entire weekend, which has become evident how far the hype has gone. The movie is expected to surpass the impressive record of collection set by Kamal Haasan's Vikram earlier this year. Ponniyin Selvan, an action-packed saga set in the tenth century, follows the power struggles between factions within the Chola empire, with the enemies of the state serving as catalysts.
With the hashtag "Releasing Tomorrow," Tips Tamil, which purchased the audio rights to the movie, shared a sneak peek video on Thursday with the movie's director Mani Ratnam, who discusses the ideology behind the book to film adaptation. The Tips channel, which has been releasing hugely anticipated promos and cast interviews over the past few weeks to tease the buffs, has received a blazing response from the audience.
A promo video with Mani Ratnam has been released for the first time and the video opens to the veteran creator and pays titular tribute to some of his earlier works before cutting to him. He says, "Not just for me, it could have been a dream project for so many people. People who enjoyed the book feel like they own it. I felt the same too. By adding all my favourite segments from the book I made this film."
Ponniyin Selvan is bankrolled by Subaskaran's Lyca Productions and Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies. Directed by Mani Ratnam, 'Ponniyin Selvan' will be getting released in two parts, and the first part is gearing up to release, while the second part is expected to arrive in Summer 2023. The history of Cholas needed a whopping 500 crores budget to make it to the screens. Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, and Prakash Raj among others are ready to grandly welcome us to the land of the Cholas in just a day.
