Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of Trinamool Congress party Mamata Banerjee had written to Tamil Nadu opposition leader and DMK President M K Stalin with the view of rolling out conjoint plans to voice against the Citizenship Amendment Act and to save the democracy and she had addressed the Dravidian leader during the high time that the nation has been encountering the fierce raise of agitation and the uproar.
Mamata had reached out to M K Stalin on the same day when the DMK and its allied parties had organized a huge procession in the city on Monday against the controversial and biased Citizenship Act and the National Register of Citizens, that as claimed by the opposition parties, threatens the rights of the minorities and violates the constitution. Through her letter, the West Bengal Chief Minister has said that the people across the nation including women, children, farmers, workers, and schedules castes are under deep fear and anxiety due to the enacted CAA.
By underlining the requirement of uniting against the draconian regime, Mamata had called the senior leaders of the parties to voice against the act in a united manner and she reiterated to create a peaceful opposition to stand against the Center and to save India's democracy. Mamata is one of the Chief Ministers to lay the fierce criticism against the biased act where she led a massive protest and rally in Kolkata last week and in line with the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Punjab, she announced that she won't be implementing the act in the state of West Bengal.
Through her letter, she stated that the entire world is watching India and urged the leaders to save India and the founders and forefathers. While she roars from the east, DMK has been roaring from the South through its series of protests as on Monday, the DMK had led the rally in the city that saw the presence of the National and regional leaders including senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, MDMK chief Vaiko and the allied party leaders who unanimously voiced against the CAA and warned the Central government to withdraw the act. The procession that marched for about 2 kilometers and attended by more than thousands of people where the state government had deployed more than 5,000 police personnel with the view of tightening the security mechanisms.
It has been reported that, on Tuesday, the Egmore police department had booked M K Stalin and about 8,000 others under the grounds of unlawful assembly and violating the orders of the authorities. The reports say that the police had registered a case against M K Stalin under the sections of 143 - Unlawful assembly,188- the offense of disobedience of an order, and 341- wrongful restraint.
