Expelled DMK leader MK Alagiri had thrown a bombshell on his brother and DMK Chief MK Stalin by vowing that his supporters are getting ready to spoil the hope of the DMK Chief in becoming the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Alagiri's statement has shocked the DMK leaders and it has come at a high time when he has been surfaced with strong speculations over his political resurgence.
On Sunday, MK Alagiri, who still enjoys a political stronghold in Madurai and southern districts of the state, had gathered a meeting with his supporters in Madurai on how to frame the resurgence and work in the upcoming assembly polls. Alagiri had earlier asserted that he would play an active role in the polls and while he visited his mother in Chennai last month, he said that he will decide his next political step after meeting his supporters on January 3.
As announced, the expelled DMK leader and former Union Minister had convened a meeting with his supporters on Sunday and his meeting had headlined across the state and among the political leaders as Alagiri was expected to launch his new political party ahead of the polls to rival against his brother Stalin. During the meeting, MK Alagiri had shocked the DMK leaders by claiming that MK Stalin will never become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Alagiri also claimed that his supporters will never allow Stalin to become the Chief Minister and Stalin will forever remain as a future CM. However, Alagiri hasn't divulged whether he will be launching a political party ahead of the elections. While most of his supporters asked him to start a political party, Alagiri addressed the supporters to accept his decision regardless of how good or bad it would be. The former Union Minister concluded the meeting without giving any assurance of launching a political party.
By throwing a shock to his brother, in his hope of becoming the next Chief Minister, Alagiri recalled how he supported Stalin in the last two decades. During the meeting, the expelled DMK leader highlighted how he had contributed to the party and supported Stalin and Alagiri went on to claim that he was betrayed by his own brother and that Stalin could never be compared to DMK patriarch Karunanidhi.
Alagiri said to his supporters that based on his recommendation, then DMK Chief Karunanidhi made Stalin as the party treasurer and said that Stalin has envied on seeing his elevation as the South Zone secretary of the party. Alagiri has also claimed that he had even told Stalin that the latter would become the party chief and Chief Minister after Karunanidhi and said that he doesn't know why he betrayed him.
Alagiri vowed that Stalin can never become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and will forever remain as the 'future CM'. By asserting that he doesn't want to become the Chief Minister, Alagiri shocked Stalin by stating that his supporters will definitely work to stop Stalin from becoming the Chief Minister. According to reports, Alagiri's meeting on Sunday had risen many eyebrows across the state as it had drawn the presence of thousands of people with the meeting hall was overwhelmed with his supporters as Alagiri had strongly signaled that he is ready for a resurgence, which would largely go against his own brother.
The gathering of a large crowd had shown that Alagiri still has a stronghold to revive despite staying off from active politics for many years. Alagiri was expelled from the DMK in 2014 under the grounds of violating party discipline. The party had witnessed a heated dispute and rival between the brother over leading the party after Karunanidhi. Alagiri was expelled and Stalin took over the party's presidency after the demise of their father. Alagiri had earlier said that he will not get back to the DMK and it was speculated that he would start a political party and name it as Kalaignar Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (KDMK).
As Stalin is getting ready for the first legislative elections as the DMK President, Alagiri is now coming into the political picture of applying brakes to Stalin's bid in becoming the Chief Minister and the latest development of Alagiri's apparent statement of blocking Stalin had levied major setback to the DMK Chief and the party, which is desperate to take over the reign after a decade by ousting the ADMK regime. In Alagiri's resurgence, Stalin could find a heavy challenge in pushing his politics forward while the ruling ADMK regime could find a favorable space to counter the rise of Stalin.
