In the wake of transferring the Chief Justice of Madras High court to Meghalaya high court, the bar council and the advocates union have hosted demonstrations to voice against the recommendation of collegium for second consecutive day where the judicial premises of Madras High court has been under the scenes of ruckus after most of the advocates have boycotted their daily proceedings to send solidarity to Chief Justice Tahilramani.
The issue of judicial turmoil had slightly mounted last week after the Chief Justice of Madras High court Justice Tahilramani, who holds the office for the past one year, has been issued with directive to get transferred to relatively smaller high court of Meghalaya after the Supreme court collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India had recommended the appointments to the President of India.
Justice Tahilramani had written to the collegium bench of the Supreme court to reconsider the recommendation on transfer but her request for reconsideration was rejected by the collegium which had cited that Tahilramani would be transferred to Meghalaya High court to deliver better judicial administration and it was when the decision of collegium has been heated up in Madras High court. After getting odd response of rejecting her reconsideration note, Justice Tahilramani, instead of writing to assume the office of Chief Justice of Meghalaya High court, she had written her resignation letter to the President of India by copying to the Chief Justice of India.
As its has yet to be known that whether the President had accepted her resignation, the advocates of Madras High court and across the state had sent solidarity to Chief Justice Tahilramani by boycotting the court. The officials of advocates union and Bar council had said that they urge the collegium to review its recommendation to transfer Tahilramani to Meghalaya High court and further asked Tahilramani to withdraw her resignation. The judicial demonstration has been carried out for second consecutive day in Madras High court premises.
On the other hand, the judicial institution has been puzzling the possibilities of Justice Tahilramani to hold her office and to chair the high court bench after she had placed her resignation to the President and the reports say that the Madras high court registry hadn't listed out the cases before her for the second consecutive day and further cited that the cases which were on her table will be shifted to next bench of Justices.
While being approached on her stance, Justice Tahilramani had refused to furnish any comments or discussions with regard to this matter.
