Amid the intense protests that have been rolling out by the Muslim communities in Chennai against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR), the Madras High court has, on Tuesday, barricaded the Muslim outfits from sieging the state assembly with the motive of demanding the state government to adopt the resolution against these policies in the ongoing Budget session.
Earlier, the Muslim outfits had proposed to siege the assembly on Wednesday to stress the government to act against the policies and the agitation has been proposed at the crucial time when the protests at the Washermenpet have been shaping the city as mini Shaheen Bagh and the agitations had hit the sixth straight day. The Madras High court bench comprised of Justices Sathyanarayana and Hemalatha had delivered the interim order to the outfits from staging protests before the assembly till March 11th.
The reports say that the order has been passed by the state's top judicial body with accord to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed on Tuesday. The PIL was filed to seek the directive from the High court to repeal and to barricade the proposed agitation of sieging the assembly. After issuing the order, the court has postponed the hearing to March 12th.
The reports have stated that the order has been passed to constrain the Federation of Tamil Nadu Islamic and Political organizations that have proposed to roll out the protests in the assembly. The court has however ratified that it was not placing any comments and opinions about CAA, NRC, and NPR. The petitioners who moved the PIL had notified the court that the Muslim outfits would organize the protest to siege the assembly with the motive of pressing the ruling ADMK government to adopt the resolution against these three Central government policies.
By underlining the ongoing agitations in Chennai, the petitioners claimed that the people have been instigated to take part in the protests and to spur the problems by spreading rumors. At the time of writing, we have been told that the outfits would carry out their proposed agitation of sieging the assembly by relinquishing the court orders and the developments say that the law enforcement agency had deployed thousands of police personnel around the Chief Secretariat to barricade the agitation from getting advanced to siege the assembly.
