With the magnetic and alluring voice of Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan, the Tamil version of the trailer of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' has been reaping a massive reception across and beyond the borders. Tuesday was a blessed day for the cinephiles in every corner as the makers of Ponniyin Selvan after treating the fans to posters, a teaser and a handful of songs from the film, released the official trailer of the film along with launching the audio.
The trailer features the rousing background score of A R Rahman, and reveals Karthi, Vikram, and Jayam Ravi as gory Cholan warriors fighting the enemies in this period drama. The grandeur ceremony was held on Tuesday at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, three weeks ahead of the movie's release. The first part of Ponniyin Selvan has been slated for a theatrical release on September 30.
Iconically, the two legendary stars of Tamil Cinema Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan graced the occasion on Tuesday with their presence and speeches. The trailer was released in the midst of a sea of spectators and it runs for a little over three minutes. In Tamil, the trailer has Kamal Haasan's voice in the background and as the movie is also getting released in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, the trailers in these languages had an icon from the respective languages briefing in the background.
The Tamil version starts with Kamal Haasan's thundering voice and it quickly takes us to the world of Chola and after the launch, Lyca Productions, one of the makers of the movie, shared the trailer on Twitter and it wrote, "Unveiling the most awaited Tamil trailer of PS 1 in the voice of Kamal Haasan sir." From the opening sequence to the part where the trailer finishes, Rahman's music aids in conjuring the emotions at the right times from the emotional to the royal vibe.
Mani Ratnam has succeeded in bringing his own golden touch in Ponniyin Selvan's cinematic charisma from Kalki's to life, and made way more intrigued about the movie's main plot and script until after its global release. The performances of the lead cast notably won over viewers, adding to the film's exaggerated tone and atmosphere. From the acting to the stunning visual magnificence, the trailer promises to deliver a dramatic cinematic experience that has it all.
The humongous reach of the trailer has denoted how the fans were waiting and they now relish the end of a long wait. It has crossed millions of views within a day and by the time of writing the content, the Tamil version of the trailer has garnered close to four million views. While Kamal Haasan contributed his voice for the Tamil trailer, it was done by actor Prithiviraj Sukumaran in Malayalam, Anil Kapoor in Hindi, Rana Daggubati in Telugu, and Jayant Kaikini in Kannada.
Ponniyin Selvan is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies. It is helmed by Mani Ratnam and stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Nizhalgal Ravi, Vijayakumar, and Nassar. The dialogue was written by renowned author Jeyamohan, while Oscar-winning musician A R Rahman composed the music. The Ponniyin Selvan novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, published in 1955, served as the inspiration for the movie. Originally intended to be a standalone movie, Ponniyin Selvan was later divided into two parts.
