'Let's pray for SPB': From Rajini to ARR, mass prayer in TN for the speedy recovery of the legendary singer!

Ever since reputed playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam (74) was hospitalized due to the COVID-19 viral infection, people, celebrities, and fans from across and beyond the borders have been showing that he is not alone in the battle as the fullest and heartfelt wishes and prayers from the people have been pouring in for his speedy recovery. 

When the MGM Healthcare Hospital in Chennai, where SPB is getting treated, had on last week said that his health has attained a setback and has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with life support, the prayers had gone high and strong as more people joined and increased its might and hope to have their favorite singer and multilingual artist back to his and their lives. 

As he has been battling against the pandemic, renowned celebrities in the industry had extended their prayers and wishes to the legendary singer. On Wednesday, Veteran director Bharathiraja called fans and people for mass prayer on Thursday for the speedy recovery of the singer from 6 pm to 6.05 pm. 

 

Following Bharathiraja, Superstar Rajinikanth and Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja also appealed to the fans to join the mass prayer to take their prayers to more heights. In his statement, Rajinikanth said, "Singing moon...come back! We will do a mass prayer and rescue SPB". 

As announced, from the general public to celebrities, the state has come together and offered a mass prayer on Thursday for the playback singer. Celebrities like Bharathirajaa, Superstar Rajinikanth, Musicians AR Rahman, and Ilaiyaraaja had joined the mass prayer at 6 pm on Thursday. Adding to the celebrities, many children and young people had gathered before the MGM Hospital and were seen holding the candles and they offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the singer. 

 

Along with the fans of SPB, the fans and members of fan clubs of top actors, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Vijay had also offered their prayers. People gathered in front of the Big Temple in Thanjavur and residents living in various cities like Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore, and Erode had offered their prayers at their respective residences and at some public juctions by holding his portrait and kept the prayers high to nature to give back SPB. 

According to the reports, fans across the state who offered prayers have sung the singer's popular lyrics 'Nalam Vazha Ennalum Vaazhthukkal' (Our wishes for your well-being) and 'Unnal Mudiyum Thambi' (You can do it, brother) as the fans dedicated his songs as the prayers for his recovery. Various places had held a prayer ceremony by placing his portrait and holding candles and prayed for nature that SPB must come back and sing more songs. 

 

The visuals from across the state had pictured a hope that he will be back. It has been one of the important statewide mass prayers offered for the SPB and previously, such prayers were offered for Former Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers MG Ramachandran, Jayalalithaa, and Karunanidhi. The reports say that some of the notable figures who offered prayers include Actors Sivakumar, Prabhu, film director Thankarbachan, and Apollo Hospitals chairman Dr. Prathap Reddy. 

 

On August 5, SPB said that he has tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection and he was admitted to the MGM Hospitals in Chennai. While initially, he said he had a mild infection and he would be discharged in two days, his health condition had taken a wrong turn last week after the hospital reported that there was a setback in his health and he was moved to the ICU. He has been getting treated in ICU since then and on Wednesday, the hospital said that the singer has been at the critical state and under the support of the ventilator and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). In his video message, SPB's son SPB Charan thanked for the mass prayer.
