At least two dead and dozens injured after the five-storey building collapsed in Maharashtra's Raigad!

At least two people have died, dozens have been injured, and scores have been missing as the sequel of the building collapse in Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra on Monday night as the catastrophe that lasted for minutes had pushed people into deep anxiety over finding and rescuing their loved ones from the debris.

According to the reports, the five-storeyed Tarek Garden building had crumpled in Mahad, which is an Industrial town that is situated 170 kilometers from the state's capital Mumbai. The building was a decade old and collapsed around 7 pm on Monday. The building was housing 47 flats and it went into smokes in a short span of time by injuring dozens and trapping scores beneath the rubbles.

The incident had killed at least two, injured 18 others, and more than 90 people were trapped under the debris. The relief efforts were initiated with the local police officers and residents taking part in the rescue mission of recovering the survivors from the concrete base and ambulances had rushed to the site and rushed the injured to the hospitals.

The injured were taken to the local hospital at Mahad and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams had deployed to the site to escalate the rescue operations to lift the trapped survivors. According to the PTI, Raigad District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary said that around 70 people in the building ran out and managed to save their lives after it started to collapse.

The collector further stated that most of the families are not residing in the flats as they have gone to their native places in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown, signaling that many lives were saved as the large human settlement in the flat would have increased the fatalities. The district SP said the local people and the officials from the Public Works Department have been assisting in the rescue operation.

According to Reuters, a female survivor said that she had managed to ran out of the building with her three daughters after the building started shaking. She said, "We heard a loud noise and there was smoke everywhere and the building collapsed in a few seconds after we ran out". The Newsagency said of those 90 people who were trapped, 60 have been rescued on Tuesday with the searches for other missing people are going on.
