Kishore K Swamy is arrested by Chennai Police...Here's why!

Kishore K Swamy, a right-wing supporter who proclaims himself as a political analyst, was arrested by the Chennai police on Monday under the grounds of defaming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and former Chief Ministers and DMK stalwarts CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi. Swamy was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody for further investigations.

Swamy has also been accused of harassing women journalists on social media. According to reports, DMK's IT wing coordinator of Kancheepuram district has on June 10 filed a complaint against Swamy. In the complaint, the coordinator said that Swamy has been making and circulating abusive and defamatory comments against MK Stalin and former Chief Ministers Annadurai and Karunanidhi.

Based on the complaint, the Shankar Nagar police had arrested Kishore K Swamy on Monday. Speaking to a news agency, the Shankar Nagar police official has said that the police had apprehended Swamy for making derogatory remarks against former Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu Annadurai and Karunanidhi and present Chief Minister MK Stalin.

The police had filed a case against Swamy under sections 153- wantonly provoking with intent to cause a riot, (1) (b) - causing fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the state or against the public tranquillity, and (1) (c) - whoever makes, publishes, or circulates any statement or report containing rumour or alarming news with intent to create or promote hatred between religions, casts, or communities of the Indian Penal Code.

The reports say that Swamy had posted against the announcement of the DMK government to permit women priests to perform pooja in temples. After arresting Swamy, the police had produced him before a magistrate and remanded him to judicial custody. Earlier in 2019, the Cyber Crime wing of Chennai police had arrested Swamy based on a complaint by the Tamil Nadu women journalists forum. At least eight journalists have filed complaints against him by stating that Swamy had specifically targeted women journalists on social media and posting obscene remarks, assassinating their characters, and inciting certain religious groups against them.
