In the wake of accounting for deaths due to the erection of illegal banners in the state, the Madras High court had grilled the state government to furnish the grounds of actions taken against such illegalities and state authorities while the high court bench was hearing the case of recently died Subhasree.
The High court bench had questioned the state government on its actions and responses towards the tragic deaths caused due to the banners and hoardings and further doubted whether the state government had failed to initiate stringent actions against the authorities of Greater Chennai corporation and the accused for allegedly erecting the illegal banners. The bench had issued notice to the government which has to be responded in next hearing.
On September 12th, 23 year old Chennai based IT employee Subhasree was died after one of the hundreds of banners had hit her two wheeler in one of the busiest roads in Chennai and the video evidence had pictured the scenes that she was reportedly thrown off from her vehicle in middle of the road after which she was rammed by the truck that was driving behind her. Soon after the tragic incident, she was taken to nearby hospital where she was declared dead.
The incident had erupted fierce accusations from the people and from the activists against the government on its failing stance towards banning the rise of banners where the state had failed to abide the orders and directives passed by the High court which eventually had claimed a life after which the Madras High court had turned tough towards the state government and ordered Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia for her family and taken the case filed by the activists for hearing.
In the middle of the hearing today, the bench headed by Justice Ramesh had issued the notice for the state government towards the actions it had flagged against the respective authorities who demeaned the orders of the Madras High court towards barricading the erection of illegal banners.
The reports say that the illegal banners which killed Subhasree were erected by the former AIADMK Councillor Jayagopal with the move of welcoming the state Deputy Chief minister Pannerselvam for attending his son's wedding and it has been reported that the concerned police department is yet to detain the accused who would reportedly be at large.
