Khushbu vs Udhayanidhi Stalin...Will BJP change the history?

Days after DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin had moved his application to the party's leadership to seek the ticket to contest in the upcoming assembly polls from Chepauk- Triplicane legislative constituency, the Tamil Nadu BJP unit has been preparing to field a popular face to defeat him and to change the history that Chepauk- Triplicane will also elect the members other than DMK as the constituency has been electing DMK members in recent elections, making it as the DMK's stronghold.

In a quest to find a popular face, the reports close to the developments say that BJP has found a candidate to field against Udhayanidhi Stalin - Khushbu. As one of the actor-turned-politicians in Tamil Nadu, Khushbu has recently joined BJP after quitting the Congress party and she has emerged as one of the star campaigners for the Central ruling party.

It was strongly speculated that Khushbu will contest in the upcoming polls and as Stalin's son is ready to add another feather in the cap of DMK's Dynasty politics by contesting from Chepauk- Triplicane constituency in Chennai, multiple reports confirm that Khushbu will be fielded by BJP against Udhayanidhi Stalin in the constituency. If the Central ruling party provides a ticket for Khushbhu, it will mark one of the crucial battles in the assembly polls.

Chepauk- Triplicane constituency would draw major attention from across and beyond the state as it would be a direct fight between the two popular rivals. However, on the other hand, BJP has to negotiate with the ADMK in the alliance to seek the constituency for its camp. As ADMK has initiated talks with the allied parties, the sources say that ADMK is planning to directly contest against the DMK in important constituencies across and beyond Chennai.

Udhayanidhi Stalin has been taking part in the campaign trail for the upcoming polls and he was speculated that he will be contesting in the polls. He confirmed that he will be contesting in the polls on Thursday by moving his application to seek the party's ticket. He was accompanied by his supporters and the youth wing members had sought a party ticket for him to contest in the constituency which is one of the DMK's strongholds in Chennai.

According to reports, Udhayanidhi has chosen a safe haven to enter the assembly for the first time. Chepauk-Triplicane has been the DMK's fortress in Chennai as the voters from this constituency had a history of sending DMK members to the successive assemblies. Finding a prospect of a comfortable win, Stalin's son has picked this constituency and with a pre-election survey suggesting that the DMK will win the polls, the party leaders expect that the upcoming polls will give a breakthrough for Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is not here only for being a star campaigner.

It must be noted that late DMK President Karunanidhi had been elected as MLA three times from this constituency. Karunanidhi was elected to the assembly from this constituency in the 1996, 2001, and 2006 elections. It was in the 1991 elections that the party had lost this constituency after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. After 1991, the constituency had voted for the DMK leaders.

Following Karunanidhi, J Anbazhagan, who was close to Stalin, was elected from the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency and he represented the constituency for two consecutive times including in the current assembly. Anbazhagan had died in June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and following his demise, the constituency hasn't elected the representation for the assembly as the by-election wasn't held owing to the pandemic. Udhayanidhi Stalin has now given an application to seek a party's ticket to contest in the upcoming polls from the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency.
