The leaders of important opposition parties of India have been sent back from Srinagar airport, after they tried to visit Jammu and Kashmir for the first time after the state had brought under high restrictions and tight surveillance by the Indian government ahead of abrogating the special status from the state by revoking the articles 370 and 35A, which had guaranteed rights and provisions for the local residents of Kashmir that has been barred to rest of the nation.
The state has been under severe lock down since August 5th, the day when Indian government had made stunning announcement of revoking the articles, where the mobile and internet services had been suspended without further notice while the state government had imposed curfew to contain and to combat the rise of threat and violence.
Since such unilateral announcement has been made by the government, the opposition parties have accused the government by branding the move as undemocratic and unconstitutional and urged it to revoke the bill which had revoked the special status from the state. The opposition parties had further demanded the state authorities to free the state political leaders who have been detained and kept under the house arrest along with hundreds of activists and community leaders.
The state government, nearly after fortnight, had relaxed the curbs and restrictions from minor parts of the state where some of the districts in Kashmir valley has been eased with mobile networks and telephone exchanges that had resumed the operations last week and the restrictions have relaxed in the wake of celebrating Eid, where the reports say that the local residents had offered and concluded the prayers peacefully and days after the curbs had lifted up, the state had recorded with protests and violence in some of the areas where the central armed and paramilitary forces had used pellet guns, tear gas grenades to disperse the unauthorized gathering of the mobs which was feared to oil the violence.
The Opposition parties, which had voiced against the abrogation move, have decided to visit the state to examine and access the on ground situation after losing the special status and there were heated exchanges of words between the opposition and the state authorities over letting the leaders to visit the state. Ahead of witnessing the ease on restrictions, the leaders of the opposition parties had reported to visit the state today with the delegations from each parties.
Rahul Gandhi had joined the delegations of Congress along with Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and K C Venugopal where Dinesh Trivedi would be the face of Trinamool congress and Tiruchi Siva of DMK, Communist leaders Sitaram Yechury and D Raja, Manoj Jha of Rashtriya Janata Dal and Majeed Memon of Nationalist Congress party where among the notable delegations of opposition to take air route to visit Jammu and Kashmir.
The Delhi airport had seen the presence of the delegations since morning and so of the media which were airing the news live from the airport, as the leaders of opposition are storming to the state of Kashmir after the abrogation of special status. The leaders had seen taking the same flight to reach Srinagar where they had arrived by afternoon.
The scenes in Kashmir are still unwelcoming as the senior opposition leaders weren't given clearance to enter the city of Srinagar, which was one among the place where recent riots and violence had took place as the authorities in the airport had halted their tour and urged them to revert to Delhi in what it can be seen as the move of barricading the opposition leaders from paying their visit to the state of unrest.
The reports show that the authorities had acted without prejudice where they have asked the entire delegations of opposition parties to go back to Delhi.
