The election campaigns in Karnataka have entered a round of gala where popular celebrities are jumping in to support the political rivals in the state. As BJP has scored an advantage with the support of actor Kiccha Sudeep, the Congress has brought veteran actor Shiva Rajkumar to the field to campaign for senior Congress leaders.
It is the first time that Shiva Rajkumar has apparently come out to back a political party and he has come for a compaign days after his wife Geetha has officially joined Congress. His entry to the political field sparked speculations on whether he will plunge into direct politics by joining the Congress party. However, Shiva Rajkumar has asserted that he has not made any formal entry into politics.
On Sunday, he campaigned for Congress candidate and his brother-in-law Madhu Bangarappa in Anavatti, Shivamogga district where he took part in a roadshow seeking votes for the Congress candidate. Speaking to the reporters during the event, Shiva Rajkumar said, "My wife Geetha has joined Congress. I have no knowledge of politics. I have my friends in all the parties and they are doing a good job. I am only campaigning for them."
The veteran actor said that since he is busy with shooting schedules, he is finding no time to get involved in politics and he further stated that he will also campaign for Congress leaders Siddharamaiah, Sirsi Congress candidate Bheemanna Naik, Jagadish Shetter, Vijay Singh, and Ashok Kheni. Karnataka is heading for a single-phase assembly poll on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.
