Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar has assets worth Rs 1214 crore...But, this BJP Minister is richer than him!

In Karnataka, a handful of politicians seem to be in rain of assets as their asset values are coming to light ahead of the crucial assembly polls. The election race in Karnataka between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress has been full of beans and as the leaders from both the camps file their nominations to contest in the polls, they took the electorate aback through their growing wealth.

In a 'richie rich' race, some of the politicians in Karnataka have amassed a whopping asset to their wealth regardless of being in the ruling or the opposition camps. While Karnataka Congress Chief DK Shivakumar has declared that he has assets worth Rs 1214 crore, there's BJP Minister N Nagaraju (MTB), who has come to surpass the former as he is more richer than Shivakumar.

MTB has been considered as one of the richest politicians in India. He has been serving as a BJP Minister in Karnataka and has declared total assets worth Rs 1,609 crore. MTB had made this declaration while he filed his nomination papers to contest as the BJP candidate from the Hoskote constituency in the upcoming assembly polls.

MTB's asset value also includes his wife's and in his election affidavit, MTB has mentioned his occupation or profession as agriculturist and business, along with his wife M Shanthakumari, a housewife. The couple own moveable assets worth Rs 536 crore while their immovable assets are worth Rs 1,073 crore. The couple had also declared total liabilities of Rs 98.36 crore.

Nagaraju has added nearly Rs 600 crore to his fortune in five years. During the previous Assembly elections in 2018, he had declared assets worth Rs 1,015 crore. Nagaraju had studied till Class 9 and he is a three-time MLA from the Hoskote Assembly seat in Bengaluru Rural district. He was with Congress earlier and joined BJP in 2019 along with 16 MLAs, due to which he faced a disqualification as an MLA for defying his party's whip.

In the front of their fortunes, both Shivakumar and Nagaraju had a similar level of growth as they both had added over Rs 500 crore to their wealth in five years. The 224 assembly seats in Karnataka are heading for a single-phase poll on May 10 and the results would be declared on May 13. The Election Commission would set up a total of 58,282 polling stations in Karnataka and about 5.21 crore people are eligible to cast their votes.
