Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa tests positive for COVID-19, becomes the second CM in India!

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection, becoming the second Chief Minister in India to get contracted to the virus after his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan, as the alarming development has shown the grounds of the virus spread around the nation's top offices and officials. 

Yediyurappa (77), who has held the office of the Chief Minister of Karnataka for four times, took to Twitter and issued the conformity that he has spelled positive for the global pandemic. In his tweet, he said, 'I have tested positive for Coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalized as per the recommendation of doctors. I request all those who came in close contact with me recently to be observant exercise self-quarantine'. 

 

According to the reports, the Chief Minister has been admitted to the Manipal hospital in Bengaluru and he hasn't shown any positive symptoms. The hospital said he is doing well and clinically stable.  Earlier, the Chief Minister was under self-isolation after some of his staff members tested positive for the virus and he refrained from going to the Vidhana Soudha and conducted the meetings from his house. 

Karnataka's Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhakar said, 'Born fighter, people's leader, popular Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa has tested positive. I pray for his recovery'. By expressing the hope that the Chief Minister will get back to normalcy soon, Sudhakar further stated that the prayers and hope of the people of Karnataka are with the Chief Minister. 

The development from Karnataka came hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah tested positive for the virus, becoming the first minister in the Modi's cabinet to get affected by the virus. The Home Minister took to Twitter and said he has tested positive on Sunday. On Sunday, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has also tested positive for the global pandemic. 

 

According to ANI, one of the daughters of Yediyurappa has also tested positive for the virus following her father on Monday and she has been admitted to the Manipal hospital, where the Chief Minister is also admitted. As of Sunday, Bengaluru has reported 37,513 cases so far as the city has been witnessing a rise in the positive cases. 

According to the Union Health Ministry, India has reported 18,03,696 cases so far as of Monday morning 8 am of which 11,86,203 have been discharged while 38,135 others had succumbed to the virus. In the last 24 hours, the country has reported yet another surge of cases with 52,972 fresh cases, 40,574 discharges, and 771 deaths.
