In a shocking development, World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Delhi on Friday after he suffered a heart attack. The Veteran cricketer has undergone an angioplasty surgery on the morning hours of Friday and remains under constant observation of the medical team.
According to reports close to the developments, Kapil Dev had complained of chest pain in the wee hours of Friday following which he was rushed to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Delhi for further treatments and he underwent angioplasty in the middle of the night and he has been getting treated at the ICU. Ever since the development came to light, thousands of his fans and fraternities have taken to social media and expressed their wishes for his speedy recovery.
The treating hospital has on the afternoon hours of Friday issued an official statement concerning his health condition. According to ANI, Fortis Escorts said, "Cricketer Kapil Dev came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute emergency department at 1.00 am on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed in the middle of the night".
The hospital further stated, "Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under the close supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur and his team. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days". The 61-year-old cricketer has been one of the notable and reputed sport stars in the country and he was the first captain who brought global pride to India after winning the World Cup.

Kapil Dev was captaining the Indian Cricket Team in the 1983 World Cup that was held in the United Kingdom and he guided the team towards lifting the World Cup for the first time that still stays as one of the legendary milestones achieved by the Indian cricket team. Being known as one of the remarkable all-rounders, he had etched his contribution in all the departments of cricket.
In a cricketing career spanning for sixteen years, Kapil Dev had played 225 ODIs and 131 test matches, and overall, he had scored 9,000 runs in International Cricket. As a bowler, he had picked up 434 wickets in test matches while he had picked 253 wickets in the ODIs and he was the first to get past the figure of 400 wickets in tests.
He had retired from cricket in 1994 and following his retirement, he had taken over the role of the Indian Coach for some time. However, due to the less breakthrough and he has become a cricket analyst, commentator, and philanthropist and he has been known for these roles currently. One of his key achievements includes the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century award that was bestowed on him while some of the other laureates include Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar.
