Popular American rapper Kanye Omari West will no more be called Kanye Omari West after he rechristened his name and the announcement concerning the name change was made on Tuesday. As Kanye West has now gone into history, his new name is 'Ye', yes, just 'Ye'.
The rapper has filed the request for a name change in August in which he cited that he had decided to change his name for personal reasons. On Monday, a Communications officer at the Los Angeles Superior Court told AFP that a Los Angeles judge has granted the 44-year-old's name change request. Judge Michelle Williams has, in court documents, said, "There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted."
With the name change, Ye will just go by his first name without the middle and the last. The term Ye has always been his part of life and he had already named his Twitter account 'Ye', even before the name change. Ye had for a long time been his nickname and now, he had made it as his official name.
It must be noted that in 2018, Ye had released an album by the same name and in a radio interview in that year, the then Kanye West said, "I believe 'Ye' is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So it's I'm you, I'm us, and it's us." "It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, our everything", he added.
Ye has released his latest album 'Donda' in August this year, featuring 27 tracks with a running time of two hours. Last month, Ye has made global headlines after he split up with his wife Kim Kardashian after seven years. The star couple had four children and their separation has come as a shock to their fans. The 44-year-old rapper is amidst the divorce process with Kim Kardashian, whose name is suffixed with West so are the names of their four children.
