Fans of both legends of Kollywood, Kamal Haasan and director Shankar have been eagerly waiting for the release of Indian 2, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian. The film, which has been in the making for over four years, has faced several hurdles, including a fatal accident on the sets, pandemic, cost overruns and legal disputes. However, the makers have now revived the project with some major changes and are planning to release it in April 2024.

According to the film's producer Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is co-producing and distributing the film under his banner Red Giant Movies, Indian 2 has turned out to be extraordinary and both Kamal Haasan and Shankar are very happy with the output. He also revealed that there are plans for Indian 3, which will be discussed after the release of Indian 2.

He said, “Indian 2 has turned out to be extraordinary, we got to see some of the footage from the film. Kamal sir and Shankar sir are very happy with the output.” “Plans are on to release the film in April 2024, CG works are going on. Also, there are plans for Indian 3. The possibility of threequel will be discussed after the release of Indian 2. There are 20 to 25 days of shooting left for the completion of the filming,” he added while during the promotions of his last film Mamannan.

Indian 2 stars Kamal Haasan as Senapathy / Indian, a vigilante who fights against corruption and injustice. The film also features Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha and S.J.Suryah in pivotal roles. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

The film has also gone through some casting and crew changes as two actors – Vivekh and Nedumudi Venu – who were part of the film passed away in the interim. Reports claim that actor Guru Somasundaram, who shared the screen with Kamal in Thoongaavanam, has been roped in.

However, it is not clear whether he will replace Vivekh or Nedumudi Venu. The film also had a change in cinematographer as Rathnavelu, who was initially part of the film, was replaced by Ravi Varman due to date issues. Ravi Varman has previously worked with Shankar in Anniyan.
