After having been brought under the accusations of ill, unlawful practices and corruption in finalizing the tenders, Tamil Nadu state minister for Municipal administration and Rural development S P Velumani has seemingly been awarded with tough times by the Madras High court after the court had ordered the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti- corruption (DVAC) with final prospect to complete the pending investigations and enquiries on the allegations levied against the minister. In its order, the court had directed the anti corruption body to conclude the final enquiry by December 18th, 2019.
The court's order has come with accord to the case filed by Arappor Iyakkam, Chennai based movement which fights corruption and the state's opposition party DMK in which the petition had accused the minister for reportedly committing biased and prejudiced practices and corruption in proposing and approving the tenders in Chennai and Coimbatore corporations. Through the petition, they had stated that there are adequate evidence for the alleged conspiracy to file a First Information Report in the case.
While hearing the case, the division bench of the High court comprised of Justices Sathyanarayanan and N Seshasayee had observed that the detailed investigation can't be ascertained for the case that still rests in preliminary inquiry following which the bench had assented with final opportunity for DVAC to complete the initial investigations by next month.
Last month, the court had asserted a status report from the anti corruption body and turned tough against the authorities for lapsing and causing delay towards ending preliminary inquiry. The reports say that the court had instructed Superintendent of Police R Ponni, the special officer appointed by court to probe the inquiry to conclude within 48 days.
One of the petitioners Arappor Iyakkam, which argued to file FIR in the case during the hearing, had underlined that the corporation contracts had seen dozens of tenders which filed from the same IP address and on the other hand, the minister's counsel had rebutted the accusations levied against the minister and further claimed that the petitioners are politically motivated to earn publicity.
Through filing an affidavit, the state minister had issued his denial for accusing him with unfair practices and he further claimed that there are no contractors who had objected against the final tenders which had revealed that there are no unlawful practices and corruption.
