After the state of Tamil Nadu, for yet another time, ought to encounter the rise of Dengue epidemic, the Madras High court had issued directive to the state government to table the reports on the countermeasures that have been put in place to combat the deadliest epidemic.
The Madras High court bench comprised of Justices Sathyanarayanan and Seshasayee had asked the state government to revert with the on ground precautionary measures and emergency medication facilities in the state to treat the Dengue affected patients. The judicial directive had come after the state's top court had consented to hear the public interest litigation filed by the advocate Suryaprakasam.
In his petition, Suryaprakasam said that the state had already encountered the deaths of three children due to Dengue which had revealed that the grounds of the epidemic gets intensified in the state and further cited that, despite of having widespread and deadliest epidemic, the state government authorities had yet to flag the concrete countermeasures and accused the state health department for failing to fill the vacancies across the medical facilities in the state and the absence of primary health centers and sanitation facilities would rather increase the mortality rate.
The petitioner, through his petition, had urged the state government to release Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families who lost their children due to Dengue and further demanded the court to constitute an expert committee comprising of health and public safety experts to overview the countermeasure grids in the state and asked the court to issue directives to all the hospitals including private hospitals to establish free medication and emergency facilities for Dengue affected patients.
After considering the plea, the High court bench had asked the state government to furnish the current status of the countermeasures to tackle Dengue by October 15th, 2019.
