Dhanush's "Vaathi" finally hit theatres on February 17th Friday along with the Telugu version titled 'Sir'. The Venky Atluri's directorial grossed nearly Rs 15 Cr in the first weekend in Telugu and in Tamil by day 2, the film reportedly has made more than Rs 20 crore. As the Dhanush starrer garners the warm reception, the maverick director of Tamil cinema, Bharathiraja who played a small cameo in the film, has few words to say.
In a recent press statement, Bharathiraja described that the Venky Atluri directorial is a responsible movie ad a must watch. He said, "This is a unique film that stresses the value of learning. The movie "SIR" is important because it puts its message ahead of the film's amusement value."
Bharathiraja continues his effusive praise of the film by saying, "I've been around for a lot of important moments in film history. Just a few things have completely floored me. Vaathi/Sir is one example of such a movie. Among the many movies I've been watching lately, this one is particularly exciting because I have a role in it. Films should serve a greater purpose than just entertainment. The value of a good education is emphasised by Sir."
He furthered, "I am just back from the movie, the way the audience enjoying the film is great. It's one of the best films in recent times. Sir is a must-watch in theatres." Vaathi is presented by Srikara Studios and produced by Suryadeva Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments and Sai Soujanya of Fortune Four Cinemas. The director already worked with the Vaathi actor in the previous venture Thiruchitrambalam which also won people hearts.
In this film from the 1990s, Dhanush portrays Balamurugan, a teacher at a young age. The leading lady is played by Samyuktha Menon. In Telugu, the film is titled Sir. Seven Screen Studio, owned by Lalit Kumar, acquired the rights to distribute the film in Tamil Nadu. The music for the movie is composed by GV Prakash. The international OTT platform has already acquired the film's digital OTT rights, and the film will soon make its digital debut.
