After a year of electromance, Prashant Kishor's Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC) has finally bidded farewell to the Tamil Nadu Opposition DMK party as the team of the political strategist has unhooked its camp from the party after marking the end of the deal that was signed between them.
Prashant Kishor has set a precedent in Indian political history that he has unveiled a corporate-style formula to frame the election strategies for the political parties and to work in them in every corridor in the polls. He rose to popularity after working for the BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and then he went on to work for Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh, and Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi.
With playing a vital role behind these leaders to emerge victorious, Prashant Kishor had stepped on to Tamil Nadu politics last year, and while actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan was in talks with Kishor for the 2021 assembly polls, Kishor's IPAC had finally joined DMK in February 2020 to work for the decade-long opposition party to win the assembly polls. The DMK has inked a deal with Prashant Kishor to help the party shape its strategies and campaign for the state assembly polls.
The DMK, which was getting prepared to face the election under the leadership of MK Stalin for the first time, had said that several young professionals of the IPAC were joining hands with the party. Confirming the deal, Stalin said, "Happy to share that many bright & like-minded young professionals of Tamil Nadu are joining us under the banner of @IndianPAC to work with us on our 2021 election and help shape our plans to restore TN to its former glory!"
Prashant Kishor's team had installed an office in Teynampet, Chennai, and began working for the DMK for the assembly polls. While Kishor's induction was objected by some of the party leaders, the high command had convinced them by asserting that they would draw a line till framing the strategies for the party and they won't interfere in the internal matters. Kishor's team had hundreds of volunteers and experts and they had carried out extensive tours across Tamil Nadu to understand and capture the minds of the voters.
In what has become a perfect deal and gateway for IPAC in South India, it had worked hard for the DMK from analyzing the trend and conducting several surveys. However, the IPAC team would maintain a low profile in conducting the surveys and one of its routine works is to pass the on-ground surveys and recommendations to the party execute. IPAC's team in Tamil Nadu comprises 700-800 core members spread across the districts and the organization has an additional 2500-3000 volunteers who they interact with regularly and engage in different capabilities.
In a year-long campaign for the DMK, IPAC was significant in displaying Stalin on the rallies and Prashant Kishor's team played a vital role behind engineering Stalin's campaigns including 'Stalin than Vararu, Vidiyal thara poraru', 'Ungal Thoguthiyil Stalin', through which the DMK President toured the state and reached out to the voters to seek their votes. These campaigns had gone well among the voters and they were made in a fashion that Stalin must be everywhere in Tamil Nadu.
The political team had also worked with the leadership and the cadres of the party and come up with the strategies to reach DMK's target of winning 200 seats. When the election had neared in the state, the IPAC team had held pre-poll surveys across the state for the party and it was predicted that DMK will win over 170 seats. The predictions from the team had made Stalin happy and poured a big relief. Tamil Nadu had gone through the single-phase poll on April 6. Stalin had cast his vote in Teynampet and while it was thought that he will return home, Stalin had decided to make a surprise visit to the IPAC's office.
According to our sources, Stalin had arrived at the IPAC's office when the team was preparing the projection of the exit polls. His visit has surprised many and he was given a grant reception. Stalin's son-in-law Sabareesan was there and for the first time since making the deal, Stalin took a photo with Prashant Kishor. The sources say that Stalin had visited the IPAC team as a sign of complimenting them for their works as the deal with the IPAC was coming to an end. DMK signed a deal with IPAC till the assembly elections and it's time for the latter to pack up from Chennai.
IPAC's team had vacated the office in Teynampet and they also had vacated the office provided to them in Anna Arivalayam. Prashant Kishor's team had bidded a farewell and waved 'goodbye' to Stalin and DMK and left the city for the next project. Earlier, while speaking to a news agency, IPAC's official said that the team won't be staying with Stalin after the assembly polls and the team will go to some other state. The official added that IPAC can't do policymaking and it is a political consultancy organization. It can't play a role in the government so it has to move on.
