Popular Kollywood director Atlee is in the outing with Shah Rukh Khan for the movie 'Jawan', through which he is marking his debut in Bollywood. As Atlee is up for the new opening, he caught into trouble back in home after being accused of plagiarism.
Manickam Narayanan, who is a Tamil movie producer, approached the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) and alleged that Atlee's Jawan is based on the story of his 2006 film Perarasu. Narayanan went on to file a complaint against Atlee at TFPC on the grounds of plagiarism. The development has put Atlee and Jawan in trouble.
After the enquiry, the council has poured a relief to Atlee by closing the case against him. In the most recent development, the Tamil Film Producer Council has ruled against charging 'Jawaan' with plagiarism. Manickam Narayanan was asked to provide evidence to support his claim by the investigating Council. The enquiry concluded that the two versions of events recounted in 'Jawaan' and 'Perarasu' are different and ended the case.
This film, Jawan, marks the first time that Shah Rukh Khan has worked with Atlee, a director from the South. Perarasu tells the story of Ilavarasu and Perarasu, two identical twins who, despite being on opposite sides of the law, clash over their shared values. Vijayakanth played two separate characters in the crime action film from 2006. While the plot of Jawan is unknown, rumour has it that SRK plays both a father and son. The plot of Jawan has not been revealed by the production team.
The shooting of the film has commenced in September 2021 with filming taking place in Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. It is scheduled for theatrical release on 2 June 2023. In addition, the film will be dubbed and released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Deepika Padukone will feature in a cameo appearance in a flashback role as Khan's wife in the film. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Priyamani, Sunil Grover, Sanya Malhotra and Yogi Babu make up the supporting cast.
