Indian women hockey enters Semi-Finals for the first time in Olympic History! Day 10 of Tokyo Olympics

The current edition of the Olympics, hosted by Tokyo, has hit its tenth day on Monday and India has sent one of the largest contingents to the Japanese capital with significant participation of women. The Indian contingent has 127 athletes from champions, experienced players, and young talents. In what has become a promising precedent, India has a mix of 56 women and 71 men representing the country. Let's take a look at how the Indian contingent ended its tenth day of the Olympics.

Today's Olympics Bites of India:  

The Olympic 10th Day became the historic day for India as PV Sindhu in the third-place play-off, Sindhu beat China's He Bing Jiao. The win came after a painful loss in the semifinals to world no 1 shuttler, Tai Tzu Ying. She said in a virtual press conference "...I was blank, my coach was in tears, it was a big moment, I hugged him and thanked him. I didn't know what to do for 5-6 seconds, I shouted so all emotions came together at that moment, After semis, I was really sad, I was in tears but my coach said it is not over yet." 

"There were mixed emotions if I should be sad or happy but he told one thing. He said 'there is a lot of difference between a fourth position and a bronze' and that really hit me," she added. India's top woman sprinter Dutee Chand clocking 23.85 seconds to ends seventh, disappointing to know that she failed to advance in 200 meters. 

And Day 10 was way more than best as the Indian Women Hockey team defeated Australia 1-0 on Monday in the quarter-finals and as a result, the women's team reached the semi-finals in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics and created history. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh congratulated the Indian women's hockey team for its exultant milestone of reaching the semi-finals of the Olympics 2020. 

Comparing to these marvellous victories, like an upside-down, Aishwary Pratap Singh and Sanjeev Rajput fail to qualify for the finals of 50m Rifle 3 positions, they finished 21st and 32nd, respectively, in the 50m 3 Positions. In equestrian, India's Fouaad Mirza advanced to the jumping finals of individual eventing at the Olympics on Monday. Mirza is the first Indian equestrian to contest in the Olympics in more than two decades. 

What's in the store for India on Day 11 - Tuesday of the Olympics: 

Such a thrilling day as the 19-year-old sole Indian freestyle wrestler Sonam Malik will be in action against 25-year-old Asian Championships silver medallist Bolortuya Khurelkhuu of Mongolia tomorrow in Women's freestyle 62kg round of 16. Sonam Malik boldly came into the game after her right knee injury. 

After the 1972 Munich Games, Hockey, India featured in the semifinals of the Olympics this year. The Historic result is tomorrow awaits. The Men's semi-final against Belgium starts at 7 AM IST on Tuesday. And we have Athletics events such as Women's Javelin throw qualification: Group A and Men's Shot Put qualification. Indian contingents Annu Rani and Tajinderpal Singh Toor are participating respectively.  

The 26-year-old Tajinderpal Singh Toor from Punjab, whose personal best was 21.49m. He set a 20.75m record and won the Asian Games Gold medal in Jakarta. 28-year-old Annu Rani holds the Indian national record in the Javelin throw. Her personal best was 63.24 m. Despite these mentionable events we have tomorrow, Indian fans are nervously waiting for the Hockey battle against Belgium, as it may place in the Indian history of the Olympics.
