'Indian 2' accident: Case filed against Lyca for the death of three technicians!

Amid the growing uncertainty after the death of three technicians who were died at the Indian 2 movie set in Chennai after the crane that was installed for the movie shoot had collapsed and stumbled on them, the Chennai city police department had officially registered a case against the movie's production house Lyca productions under various sections.

The reports say that the police department of Nazarathpet, Poonamallee had booked the Lyca productions under sections 304A - causing death by negligence; 287 - Negligent conduct towards the machinery; 337- hurting life and personal safety; 338- causing grievous hurt. Lyca productions, led by Subaskaran, has been emerging as one of the noticeable production houses in the Tamil Cinema Industry. Initially, the Nazarathpet police had filed an FIR against the mishap in the wee hours of Thursday.

The incident has happened in the night hours of Wednesday when the movie shooting was taking place at the EVP film city in Poonamallee on the outskirts of Chennai during which the crane had collapsed and fell on the technicians standing on the ground. The sudden and unfortunate mishap had claimed the lives of three technicians and left about nine others with severe injuries. On Thursday, Indian 2 actor Kamal Haasan, director Shankar, and producer Subaskaran met the injured people who have been under treatment in Kilpauk government hospital in Chennai.

The three deceased were identified as Madhu -the production assistant, Chandran - the art assistant, and Krishna - the assistant director who was working under Director Shankar in the movie. Actor and politician Kamal Haasan had announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the families of the three deceased technicians while Lyca Productions said that the unit would provide a solatium of Rs 2 crore each to the families to the families of the injured and deceased and it has also stated that the company would take care the medical expenses.

Speaking to the reporters, Kamal Haasan said that "I didn't come to the hospital as the representative of Lyca Productions or Rajkamal films, but I came here as I have lost three men of my family which deeply saddens me". He added that he personally feels disgraced of not being able to save the lives of the ground level technicians. By stating that he had a narrow escape, he further urged the cinema industry to take the efforts to enhance the safety measures for the junior and on-ground employees on the movie sets. In line with Kamal, leading actors and actresses like Prasanna, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Agarwal, Arya, Aishwarya Rajesh, Varalakshmi, and Lyricist Vairamuthu have expressed their condolences to the family members of the victims.
